Kamasi Washington släpper musiken från Netflix-dokumentären Becoming.

Den 7:e maj avslöjar Kamasi Washington att det är han som har komponerat musiken till Netflix-dokumentären Becoming som hade premiär den 6 maj. Dokumentären ger en intim inblick i USA:s f.d. första dam Michelle Obamas liv, och dokumentärens regissör Nadia Hallgren bad Washington redan i början av processen att stå för musiken. Han var inte sen att nappa på erbjudandet, och dokumentärmusiken bestående av såväl nykomponerade stycken som mästerverk från Washingtons katalog släpps den 15 maj under namnet Becoming (Music from the Netflix Original Documentary).
Regissören Hallgren beskriver samarbetet med Washington som en dröm som gick i uppfyllelse. När hon fick veta att Michelle Obama älskade jazz visste hon att fenomenet Kamasi Washington, med sitt både moderna och tidlösa sound, skulle passa perfekt för uppdraget.
Washington beskriver sin upplevelse:

Michelle Obama is such an amazing person and this film gives a very unique insight to who she is, how she thinks, and the way she navigates the world. It’s truly inspiring to see! Barack and Michelle Obama’s time as President and First Lady had an impact on the history of this country and the world that is hard to put into words, but both Michelle Obama’s book and Nadia Hallgren’s film do an amazing job of it!”
