Saltimbanco is another awesome production by Cirque. Having seen Varekai in Australia I wanted to see more.
The show started with a few of the characters walking around the front row seats greeting the audience in their nonsicle language and actions. They paused in front of me, my fiancee and other people to our left, invited us up with arms likned for a walk around the stage when all of a sudden they let go and ran back to our seats, sitting down and laughing. A booming voice came over the arena (again in the nonsicle language) telling them to leave. They waved tickets in the air indicating that they had permission to sit there but again the voice boomed, so they tore them up and left our seats.
Once reseated, the show unfolded while we sat there with an awestruck silence except for the almost continous applause for amazing acrobatics, feats of balance and strength, impecible timing, awe inspiring light and sound punctuated by episodes of comedy which invariably involved the audience.
If you start concentrating on whats happening in the centre of the stage you will miss a lot of the show to the sides or above. There is always something happening elsewhere, so one must be vigilant.
I woild like to talk forever about the show but I won’t.
As mentioned, I have seen 2 shows and they won’t be the last. I can’t recommend highly enough for people to see a Cirque production.
