N\u00e4r de intog Royal Albert Hall som en del av Teenage Cancer Trust bj\u00f6ds det p\u00e5 ett maratonset best\u00e5ende av fyrtiofem l\u00e5tar &#8212; och ut\u00f6ver &#8221;den vanliga&#8221; hitkavalkaden gr\u00e4vde de \u00e4ven fram uppemot tjugofem \u00e5r gamla b-sidor s\u00e5som\u00a0<em>2 Late, Stop Dead<\/em> och <em>Harold &amp; Joe<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>De \u00f6ppnade med <em>Plainsong<\/em>, p\u00e5 videosk\u00e4rmen i bakgrunden\u00a0visades stj\u00e4rnor som i efterf\u00f6ljande\u00a0<em>Prayers for Rain<\/em> \u00f6vergick i en \u00f6dslig \u00f6ken, medan\u00a0<em>A Strange Day<\/em>\u00a0visuellt ackompanjerades av ett psykedeliskt kalejdoskop.\u00a0The Cure anno 2014 utg\u00f6rs av samma upps\u00e4ttning som spelade p\u00e5 Hultsfredsfestivalen f\u00f6r snart tv\u00e5 \u00e5r sedan, men om den konserten var en av de f\u00f6rsta med den tidigare Bowie-gitarristen Reeves Gabrels s\u00e5 k\u00e4nns bandet idag lite mer in\u00f6vat. Kanske \u00e4r det just d\u00e4rf\u00f6r de v\u00e5gar testa p\u00e5 detta mer s\u00e4llsynta urval av l\u00e5tar.<\/p>\n<p>Det \u00e4r l\u00e4tt att s\u00e4ga att The Cure bara redog\u00f6r sina l\u00e5tar precis som de l\u00e5ter p\u00e5 skiva, men flera av l\u00e5tarna pr\u00e4glas av n\u00e5gon form av interaktivitet med publiken:\u00a0n\u00e4r Robert Smith i <em>From the Edge of the Deep Green Sea<\/em> sjunger &#8221;put your hands in the sky&#8221; och hela Royal Albert Hall str\u00e4cker ut sina h\u00e4nder, &#8221;hello, hello&#8221;-gensvaret i <em>Wrong Number,\u00a0<\/em>fotbollsalls\u00e5ngen i <em>Play for Today<\/em>\u00a0och de unisona handklappningarna i <em>A Forest &#8212; <\/em>ja,\u00a0dessa \u00e4r bara n\u00e5gra exempel p\u00e5 hur publiken bidrar med att h\u00f6ja st\u00e4mningen under konserten. Och d\u00e5 har vi inte ens n\u00e4mnt hitsen.<\/p>\n<p>Setlisten \u00e4r inbjudande och anpassad s\u00e5 att de flesta har n\u00e5got att ta med sig fr\u00e5n spelningen; \u00e5 enda sidan\u00a0m\u00f6ts l\u00e5tar som <em>A Night Like This<\/em>, <em>Push<\/em>\u00a0och <em>Friday I&#8217;m in Love<\/em> av ett enormt gensvar, medan de mer s\u00e4llsynta l\u00e5tarna g\u00e5r hem hos hardcore-fansen &#8212; senare i \u00e5r \u00e5ker The Cure ut p\u00e5 en turn\u00e9 d\u00e4r de framf\u00f6r de tre 80-talsalbumen <em>The Top<\/em>, <em>The Head on the Door<\/em> och <em>Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss Me<\/em> i sin helhet, dessa spelningar kommer antagligen att v\u00e4nda sig \u00e4nnu mer mot de sistn\u00e4mnda &#8212; men faktum \u00e4r att det \u00e4r v\u00e4ldigt f\u00e5 band som ens har fyrtio singlar (\u00e5tminstone av den h\u00e4r klassen) i sin diskografi. Antagligen \u00e4r det \u00e4nnu f\u00e4rre som kan framf\u00f6ra dem p\u00e5 en s\u00e5dan h\u00e4r niv\u00e5.<\/p>\n<p>Tyv\u00e4rr framf\u00f6rs inga l\u00e5tar fr\u00e5n <em>Faith<\/em> och <em>Bloodflowers<\/em> &#8212; tv\u00e5 klart underskattade The Cure-album &#8212; men p\u00e5 det stora skulle vi kunna kalla det en karri\u00e4romfattande spelning fr\u00e5n ett av de senaste trettio \u00e5rens viktigaste band.
