Fortfarande med avstamp i 1990-talets fuzzrock \u00e4r den London-baserade kvartetten tillbaka, men med en ny konstellation \u00e4r f\u00f6rs\u00f6ken att utkristallisera en ny identitet p\u00e5 n\u00e5got s\u00e4tt oundvikliga.\u00a0Redan i den instrumentala \u00f6ppningen med <em>Sunrise in Maple Shade<\/em> avsl\u00f6jas den mer raffinerade ljudbild &#8211; b\u00e5de melodiskt samt till instrument och effekter sett &#8211; som kommer att pr\u00e4gla resten av albumet, men n\u00e4r enkelheten\u00a0&#8211; som kanske var en f\u00f6ljd av personkemin &#8211; r\u00f6rs om k\u00e4nns det bitvis lite&#8230; anonymt. Mindre utstickande. Med det sagt finns det \u00e4nd\u00e5 en del h\u00f6jdpunkter, s\u00e5som l\u00e5gm\u00e4lda <em>Memorial Fields <\/em>och<em> Somewhere<\/em>; shoegaze-fuzziga <em>Middle Sea<\/em>\u00a0och <em>Rebirth,<\/em> som \u00e4ven var de tv\u00e5 l\u00e5tarna som f\u00f6regick albumsl\u00e4ppet; samt akustiska avslutningssp\u00e5ret <em>Glow Behold,<\/em> som innan den vecklar ut sig fram emot slutet faktiskt \u00e4r r\u00e4tt l\u00e4ttillg\u00e4nglig p\u00e5 ett n\u00e4stan britpop-osande vis.<\/p>\n<p>&#8221;I live my life in maple shade \/ to get away from dreams we made&#8221; sjunger Bloom lika bitterljuvt som eftert\u00e4nksamt i <em>Memory Fields,<\/em> som med sina varma melodier och\u00a0phaserdr\u00e4nkta gitarrer sticker ut som albumets kanske mest minnesv\u00e4rda \u00f6gonblick, f\u00f6r det \u00e4r just i de d\u00e4r lite mer l\u00e5gm\u00e4lda sp\u00e5ren som balansen mellan melankoli och l\u00e4ttsamhet &#8211; som Yuck redan tidigare visat att de bem\u00e4strar med l\u00e5tar som <em>Shook Down<\/em>\u00a0och <em>Rubber<\/em> &#8211; framg\u00e5r som tydligast.<\/p>\n<p>Max Bloom stod ju redan f\u00f6r s\u00e5nginsatsen p\u00e5 <em>Operation<\/em>, fr\u00e5n den tv\u00e5 \u00e5r gamla sj\u00e4lvbetitlade debuten, men n\u00e4r han nu mer eller mindre &#8221;tvingas&#8221; kliva fram i rampljuset k\u00e4nns\u00a0det &#8211; \u00e5tminstone utifr\u00e5n sett &#8211; lite som att bandet f\u00e5r k\u00e4mpa i en egentligen om\u00f6jlig motvind. Att ers\u00e4tta Daniel Blumbergs karakt\u00e4ristiska r\u00f6st &#8211; som \u00e4nd\u00e5 utgjorde en s\u00e5pass integral del av bandets sound \u00a0&#8211; \u00e4r ingen enkel uppgift, och det faktum att det \u00e4r ett nytt band som \u00e5terv\u00e4nder blir i slut\u00e4ndan r\u00e4tt p\u00e5tagligt. S\u00e5 visst f\u00f6rnyar de sig sj\u00e4lva, delvis p\u00e5 bekostnad av det charmiga soundet som f\u00f6rst drog till sig v\u00e5r uppm\u00e4rksamhet.
