En etikett som \u2013 l\u00e5ngt ifr\u00e5n r\u00e4ttvisande \u2013 i vissa sammanhang tycks ha blivit best\u00e5ende. F\u00f6r musikaliskt har det i alla fall v\u00e4ldigt lite med punken, eller new wave heller f\u00f6r den delen, att g\u00f6ra. Om sanningen ska fram \u00e4r Elvis Costello en av v\u00e5ra mest m\u00e5ngsidiga artister och han r\u00f6r sig n\u00e4rmast obehindrat mellan olika stilar och genrer. Kanske \u00e4r det just d\u00e4rf\u00f6r han i j\u00e4mf\u00f6relse med m\u00e5nga av sina j\u00e4mn\u00e5riga artistkollegor \u00e5ldrats med en s\u00e5dan stil. Den enda som tycks ha f\u00f6rblivit konstant \u00e4r det patenterade vibratot som influerat s\u00e5 m\u00e5nga nyare musiker.<\/p>\n<p>Ensam med ett g\u00e4ng akustiska gitarrer i olika storlekar st\u00e4ller sig den idag n\u00e4stan sextio\u00e5riga musikern p\u00e5 Rivals intima scen (egentligen skulle han ha spelat h\u00e4r redan i november f\u00f6rra \u00e5ret men n\u00e4r hans fader insjuknade blev han tvungen att st\u00e4lla in resten av turn\u00e9n och s\u00e5ledes flytta fram spelningen i Stockholm till den 8:e juni). Stora delar av publiken har troligtvis varit med \u00e4nda sedan debutskivan <em>My Aim is True<\/em> fr\u00e5n 1977. Det var tydligt att den tv\u00e5-och-en-halv timmes l\u00e5nga spelningen framf\u00f6r allt v\u00e4nde sig till de mest h\u00e4ngivna fansen. Efter att ha inlett med en cover p\u00e5 <em>When I Paint My Masterpiece<\/em>, l\u00e5ten som Bob Dylan skrev \u00e5t The Band, framf\u00f6rdes <em>(The Angels Wanna Wear My) Red Shoes<\/em> fr\u00e5n den redan n\u00e4mnda debutskivan. En l\u00e5t Elvis Costello, som d\u00e5 var 22 \u00e5r, skrev om att vara gammal men som genom \u00e5ren har mognat och numera l\u00e5ter b\u00e4ttre \u00e4n n\u00e5gonsin.<\/p>\n<p>Bland \u00f6vriga l\u00e5tar som spelades finner vi bland annat <em>Alison<\/em>, <em>She<\/em> och ett f\u00f6rv\u00e5nansv\u00e4rt imponerande framf\u00f6rande av <em>A Slow Drag with Josephine<\/em> fr\u00e5n senaste studioalbumet <em>National Ransom<\/em> fr\u00e5n 2010. Den tv\u00e5-och-en-halv timmes l\u00e5nga konserten avslutades med <em>(What&#8217;s So Funny &#8217;Bout) Peace, Love and Understanding<\/em> men h\u00f6jdpunkten var f\u00f6r min del n\u00e4r covern p\u00e5 Neil Youngs <em>Down by the River<\/em> gick \u00f6ver i reggae-osande <em>Watching the Detectives<\/em>. Dessutom visade det sig av mellansnacket att den karismatiske s\u00e5ngaren \u00e4ven har en hel del humor.
