Ingen nedr\u00e4kning, inget PR-maskineri, bara \u00e4nnu en stillsam notis fr\u00e5n U2 \u2013 och pl\u00f6tsligt finns \u201cEaster Lily\u201d d\u00e4r. Om den f\u00f6rra EP:n var en reaktion p\u00e5 en v\u00e4rld i brand, \u00e4r detta n\u00e5got helt annat: en in\u00e5tv\u00e4nd, n\u00e4stan sk\u00f6r samling l\u00e5tar som v\u00e5gar st\u00e4lla fr\u00e5gor utan att lova svar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Det \u00e4r ocks\u00e5 h\u00e4r bandet k\u00e4nns som mest relevanta p\u00e5 l\u00e4nge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Ett band som s\u00f6ker snarare \u00e4n predikar<br><\/strong>Bono s\u00e4tter tonen i sitt brev: \u201cwilderness years\u201d. Det \u00e4r en formulering som genomsyrar hela EP:n. H\u00e4r finns ingen sj\u00e4lvklar moralisk kompass, inget stort patos. Ist\u00e4llet gr\u00e4ver bandet i relationer, tro och tvivel \u2013 och g\u00f6r det utan att putsa bort sprickorna.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Det m\u00e4rks direkt i \u00f6ppningssp\u00e5ren. \u201cIn a Life\u201d \u00e4r en l\u00e5gm\u00e4ld hyllning till v\u00e4nskap som n\u00e4stan v\u00e4grar att explodera, medan \u201cScars\u201d b\u00e4r sin titel med stolthet \u2013 kantig, accepterande och ov\u00e4ntat varm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>N\u00e4r The Edge kliver fram<br><\/strong>En av EP:ns starkaste stunder \u00e4r \u201cSong for Hal\u201d, d\u00e4r The Edge tar \u00f6ver s\u00e5ngen. Det \u00e4r en \u00e5terh\u00e5llsam, sorgsen hyllning till Hal Willner, och kanske det mest nakna U2 sl\u00e4ppt p\u00e5 \u00e5rtionden. Gitarrerna \u00e4r fortfarande d\u00e4r, men de k\u00e4nns mer som minnen \u00e4n manifest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Det \u00e4r ocks\u00e5 h\u00e4r bandet visar att de fortfarande kan \u00f6verraska \u2013 inte genom att bli st\u00f6rre, utan genom att bli mindre.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Tron, tvivlet och det som finns d\u00e4remellan<br><\/strong>Titeln \u201cEaster Lily\u201d nickar till Patti Smith och hennes \u201cEaster\u201d, men h\u00e4r \u00e4r uppst\u00e5ndelsen mer os\u00e4ker. \u201cResurrection Song\u201d k\u00e4nns mer som en resa utan karta \u00e4n en triumf, och \u201cCOEXIST (I Will Bless The Lord At All Times?)\u201d \u2013 med ljudlandskap av Brian Eno \u2013 \u00e4r en vaggvisa som n\u00e4stan uppl\u00f6ses i sin egen sorg.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Det religi\u00f6sa temat finns \u00f6verallt, men aldrig som svar. Snarare som en plats att vila fr\u00e5gor i.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Ett mellanverk som k\u00e4nns viktigare \u00e4n det borde<br><\/strong>Det m\u00e4rkliga \u00e4r att \u201cEaster Lily\u201d inte k\u00e4nns som ett sidosp\u00e5r. Snarare som en nyckel. Om \u201cDays of Ash\u201d var bandet som tittade ut mot v\u00e4rlden, \u00e4r detta bandet som tittar p\u00e5 sig sj\u00e4lva \u2013 och inte alltid gillar vad de ser.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Och kanske \u00e4r det just d\u00e4rf\u00f6r det fungerar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Slutomd\u00f6me<br><\/strong>Det h\u00e4r \u00e4r inte den stora, f\u00e4rgstarka skivan Bono utlovar. Det \u00e4r n\u00e5got mer f\u00f6rsiktigt. Mer m\u00e4nskligt.
