Ishiguro studerade engelska och filosofi och avlade kandidatexamen vid University of Kent 1978 och master vid University of East Anglia 1980. Han blev brittisk medborgare 1982. Chansen att \u00e4nnu en japansk f\u00f6rfattare ska f\u00e5 priset inom det n\u00e4rmaste decenniet \u00e4r v\u00e4l inte stor nu &#8211; och det gl\u00e4der mig lite, om man nu f\u00e5r vara skadeglad. F\u00f6r Murakami ligger inte alls i samma litter\u00e4ra niv\u00e5 som vare sig Ishiguro eller de flesta andra som f\u00e5tt Nobelpriset i litteratur (med f\u00f6rra \u00e5rets undantag d\u00e5, f\u00f6rst\u00e5s.
